By observing the floating disc and rings visitors become acquainted with the properties of a magnetic field and how magnetic suspension works. Magnets under the mirror generate a magnetic field in such a way that the rings remain in a certain position.

Magnetic levitation or magnetic suspension is a method also used in rollercoaster and magnetic train suspensions to keep them on the track and for propulsion purposes. The electromagnetic field compensates for gravitation force and keeps the rings in mid air. Is the object stable in all directions and axes?

  1. Watch the rotation of the rings.
  2. How can these rings stay in mid air? And do the rings actually wobble over each other?
