Solar Soccer - 07.18

A game in which two contestants must try to aim as much light on a solar cell. The player that moves the cell all the way to the other side wins.

Photo voltaic cells are most often called solar cells. Photo voltaic cells convert light into electricity. Some materials exhibit a property known as the photoelectric effect, which causes them to absorb photons of light and release electrons. When these free electrons are captured, an electric current is generated. The more light is captured, the higher this current will be. A higher current results in a faster movement of the carriage.

  1. Push the button to start.
  2. Aim the beam of light on the moving solar cell with the handheld mirror.
  3. If light falls on the solar cell the carriage will start moving.
  4. Win by moving the carriage to the far end of the field.
