This exhibit shows how water jets appear to stream in a rotating environment.
The water streams appear to bend in ways that may surprise you. The water that squirts out of the tubing deflects in the direction the tube is moving. When you reverse the direction of spin on the bottle, the water deflects in the opposite direction. The outer end of the tube moves faster than the close-in part of the tube. This means that the water streaming inward from the long tube is traveling sideways faster than the inner part of the tube is turning. Although every single drop inside the water stream travels in a straight line, the whole stream follows a curve.
