Air Bubble Race - 05.01

Experiment with the viscosity of various liquids by pumping air bubbles into two tubes, one filled with oil and another filled with water.

Liquids, as well as gasses have different viscosity. Viscosity means the degree to which a fluid resists flow under an applied force. Therefore, the fluid’s consistency will deter-mine how easy they will flow or slide against other elements.

  1. Pump air bubbles into the tubes.
  2. Check how fast the bubbles rise in each column.
  3. Which air bubbles will win? Which of the two materials seem to place more resis-tance to the air?
