This exhibit shows that gravity pulls on the centre of mass of objects.
Can something really roll upward without being provided by energy? The double cone placed at the base of the track rolls up the incline. It appears it is defying gravity, while in fact gravity causes the double cone to go up. Although the movement of this double cone seems contradictory; by rolling uphill, its centre of gravity actually gets lower, because gravity is pulling on it.
- Put the double cone on the low end of the V-shaped track.
- See if it rolls uphill.
