In this exhibit the visitor observes how the Coriolis force works.

The term Coriolis force explains how the pressure gradient force can set air in motion and make it deflect from its path. The amount of deflection the air makes is directly related to both the speed at which the air is moving and its latitude. One example of this effect is the direction of rotation of cyclones. Due to the effect, cyclones rotate counter-clockwise in the northern hemisphere, and clockwise in the southern hemisphere. At the equator the Coriolis force is zero.

  1. Turn the wheel and watch the beautiful patterns created by the various cyclones.
