In this exhibit visitors generate a big whirl by turning the handle that stirs the water.

In the oceans, streams of water move in different directions. Sometimes when streams of water crash a whirl will arise. The longer the turning lasts the bigger the whirl will become. These kinds of whirls have a lot of suction power and can be dangerous for swimmers.

1. Turn the handle to move the water.
2. The faster you turn the handle, the bigger the vortex will become.
3. Can you make a whirl that stretches from the bottom to the top of the tube?
