Description
The exhibit ‘Hydrogen Rocket’ launches a rocket using the power released from the combustion of hydrogen gas.
Hydrogen is a very powerful and efficient energy source. During combustion, hydrogen reacts with oxygen according to the chemical equation: 2 H₂ + O₂ -> 2 H₂O. After this reaction, only water remains, making it an exceptionally clean energy source.
This combustion power of hydrogen has also been used to launch real rockets. For example, think of the famous Saturn V rocket that took the first humans to the moon. Nowadays, hydrogen is also used as fuel for cars, trucks, boats, and even airplanes. In factories, hydrogen can also be a very sustainable alternative to fossil fuels as an energy source.
